P.IN.E.A #01

P.IN.E.A stands for Photography, Intermedia Et Al. and addresses contemporary photography and related media. Inspired by the pineal eye of primitive vertebrates—a centrally located, third eye that possesses photoreceptive properties and functions as a kind of compass for navigation—P.IN.E.A Periodical aims to provide guidance in the cosmos of apparatus-generated images. The first issue contains an in-depth essays on Thomas Demand, Ganslmeier & Zibelnik, Hagren ⁄ Bela, Christiane Peschek, and Ana Torfs (FEATURES). In VISITS, Thomas Seelig meets artist Inge Dick for a conversation about the fundamental nature of the photographic medium. In addition, contributions by Annekathrin Kohout (INSIGHT) and Julia Sica (CARTE BLANCHE) explore two phenomena that inspired the naming of P.IN.E.A, situating the periodical programmatically at the intersection of contemporary media reflection, visual theory, and interdisciplinary discourse.
